At Success Lake like Pine Flat, trouting can be tough at times, since this is primarily a warm water fishery. The key to finding trout in warmer lakes like this is to look for flowing water or even is subtle currents of some kind.
At Success Lake, fish where the fresh water comes into the lake down from the golf course, in the North Fork of the Tule River arm. This will be the cooler more oxygenated water necessary to sustain a limited trout community.

Early spring will be the best time to fish trout at Success with the rainbows moving shallow to spawn. Limited summer action is possible using lead core line. Bait fishermen have historically scored well with Velveta at Success. Hardware chuckers should give the Mepps and Kastmaster lures a try.
Success lake is located about midway between Fresno and Bakersfield, near Portersville, on the Tule River. It holds 2400 surface acres of water, with 30 miles of shoreline. There are both developed and primitive campsites and a full service marina.
